The question of whether punishing wrongdoers is fundamental to securing lasting peace deeply relates with numerous past experiences that the global society went through such as the case of Libya, Egypt, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, and etc. There are several points that need to be addressed when discussing this motion. Firstly, what is the true meaning of justice? When there is a violent dispute that each side requires total victory, the winning side has the tendency to justify their actions and create their own standards of justice and apply them to their situation. Also, in the process of achieving victory, should it be gained diplomatically? Or is the engagement of the military sometimes justifiable in order to protect the citizens? Secondly, the question of whether diplomatic approach is effective becomes an important point of contention. The past experiences both informed dictators and wrongdoers around the world how to act accordingly to the conditions suggested by the international society, therefore making it harder to implement such diplomatic methods. The opposition believes that this approach is indeed effective, and a great example of that is the unanimous decision of the UN Security Council to directly intervene in the case of Qaddafi, where multiple atrocities took place.
